Dr. Janice Gobert, associate professor of learning sciences and psychology at WPI, is working to transform science learning and assessment. She and her group are developing an environment that assesses and scaffolds students in real time using interactive simulations called "microworlds" for Physical, Life, and Earth Science. Together the environment, its inquiry support widgets, and microworlds provide a context for students to hone their content knowledge and inquiry skills; at the same time we generate real time assessment reports based on educational data mining and knowledge-engineering and automatically send these to teachers' computers and/or mobile devices.
